Site prep & pads

A level, compacted pad that doesn't settle in year two — for pole barns, garages, sheds, and driveways. Milford and Southeast Michigan.

Site prep & pads
Sound like your property?
  • "I'm putting up a pole barn and need a pad."
  • "The builder needs the site ready before they'll start."
  • "The shed sank on one corner."
  • "The new drive needs a real base."
What D1 does

Site preparation, in plain terms.

Site prep is everything that happens before the building shows up: strip, cut and fill, bring in base, compact it in lifts, and hand over a pad that's level and stays that way.

  • Building pads

Pole barns, detached garages, sheds. Cut, fill, and compact to the footprint you give us.

  • Backfill & compaction

Around foundations and in low areas, placed in lifts and compacted — not dumped and left.

  • Driveway preparation

Sub-base and base for a new gravel or millings drive.

  • Rough & finish grade

Shape the site so water leaves the pad, then finish it so the yard is done.

  • Coordination with your builder

We work to their pad spec and elevation. Give us the drawing and we'll build to it.

How a site preparation job runs
  1. Free on-site estimate

We walk the property with you, explain the options, and give you a written number.

  2. Planned & scheduled

You get a start date. If weather or ground conditions move it, you hear from us first.

  3. Build

The crew shows up when we said. Work happens the way it was scoped.

  4. Walk-through & cleanup

We walk it with you, fix anything that isn't right, and leave the site clean.

Built for Michigan ground

Compact in lifts, or pay for it later.

Southeast Michigan clay doesn't forgive a pad built in one dump. Fill placed and compacted in lifts holds; fill piled and rolled once settles when the frost leaves in spring. That's the difference between a barn that stays square and one that doesn't.

Questions about site preparation
How big can the pad be?

Residential pole barn and garage pads are our normal work. Give us dimensions and we'll tell you honestly if it's a good fit.

Do you work with builders?

Yes. Send the pad spec and we'll build to it. Builders like that we show up when scheduled.

Can you also clear the site first?

Yes — clearing, pad, and drive prep are usually one scope and one schedule.
