Gravel driveways & walkways

New gravel drives built on a real base, and tired ones brought back — regraded, topped up, and compacted. Milford and Southeast Michigan.

Sound like your property?
  • "The drive is more pothole than gravel."
  • "Every spring it turns to soup."
  • "It's never been more than a path through the grass."
  • "I want a walkway that isn't mud."
What D1 does

Gravel driveways, in plain terms.

A gravel drive is only as good as what's under it. We build new drives on a base with a crown, and fix old ones by rebuilding the base where it failed — not by spreading stone over the problem.

  • New gravel driveways & walkways

Weed barrier where it helps, crushed stone base, decorative top course, crowned so water leaves.

  • Top-up & rake

Add gravel, level, fill ruts, and compact.

  • Pothole repair

Rebuild the base in lifts and shape for drainage instead of filling the hole with more stone.

  • Regrade & re-crown

Fix runoff so the surface stops washing out.

  • Asphalt millings

Reprocessed and recompacted to a firm, asphalt-like surface. Availability pending confirmation.

Built for Michigan ground

Crown it, or it ruts.

Freeze-thaw and a flat drive are how ruts happen. A drive with a crown sheds water to the sides; a flat one holds it, freezes it, and breaks up in March. Base depth and shape matter more than what the top layer looks like on day one.

Questions about gravel driveways
Gravel or millings?

Millings pack into a firmer surface and shed water; gravel is easier to top up and looks more rural. We'll talk through both at the estimate.

How often does a gravel drive need a top-up?

Depends on traffic and drainage. A well-crowned drive on a good base can go years; a flat one on clay needs it every spring.

Can you fix just the bad spots?

Yes. Pothole and low-spot repair on the base is a normal visit.
